The Day Pacman Gobbled The Golden Boy

The dream match became a nightmare for Oscar Dela Hoya. We were at the full-packed Sir Edwards Restaurant to witness on widescreen TV Manny Pacquiao’s annihilation of The Golden Boy. The place was as noisy as the MGM Grand with loud cheers erupting every time Pacman’s rapid fire punches pummel Dela Hoya. And when The Golden Boy’s corner waved the white flag at the start of the ninth round, we were all on our feet to savor the moment. It was another sweet victory for the man whose fists have the power not only to batter his opponents to submission but also to unite a divided nation even for just one day. Pacquiao once again proved all the doubters wrong, the soothsayers who predicted there is no way he could win were silenced. An underdog going into the fight, he tuned the tide over with faith and determination. Manny’s heart was obviously bigger than the Garden Arena that night. And you could never underestimate the heart of a champion.

Congratulations Manny! You made us proud to be Filipinos.
